How to make a Lidded Pinch Project

The hardest thing about rolling a slab is the physical effort needed. This is a straight forward process; wedge your clay, select your rolling guide thickness, and use the rolling pin to flatten the clay.

Want to add some creative surface design to your projects. Try using a smooth tool to burnish the surface of your greenware piece. Or add underglaze or colored slip to your greenware projects and use a tool to carve or sgraffito through to the clay underneath.

Carving a relief in clay is a great way to add dimension to your work. In this video I demonstrate how to carve around an initial for a project, but can easily applied for any form in clay.

This demonstration is useful when you are ready to start shaping your clay form. I am using two pinch pots blended together, but this is applicable from any blended form. I also address how to release and add more air into the form.

This video demonstrates three different options for cutting a lid in a ceramic artwork. I cut lids from forms created using two pinch bowls blended together. I demo cutting a beveled or angled cut, using coils to put under the lid, and using a notched cut to prevent the lid from falling off.

In this video I offer suggestions on how to elevate a traditional coil project by manipulating clay spirals, creating a unique base to construct from, and constructing coiled walls with various angles.
